Activities

Everything you need to know about tracking and managing activities in Cadence.

What are activities?

Activities are the building blocks of your day in Cadence. They represent how you spend your time - like working, resting, exercising, or socializing. Each activity has:

  • A name (e.g., "Work", "Exercise", "Reading")
  • A color for easy visual identification
  • A category (Work, Health, Personal, Social, Creative, Learning, Other)

How do I create an activity?

There are multiple ways to create activities:

During Onboarding:

  1. Select from pre-made activity templates
  2. Customize names, colors, and categories
  3. Start with 8-12 core activities

From the Activities Dialog:

  1. Open the Today screen
  2. Tap "Edit" on the Activities dialog
  3. Tap the "+" button on the top right
  4. Enter an activity name
  5. Choose a category
  6. Pick a color
  7. Tap "Save"

  • Create activities on-the-fly while logging time
  • Suggested activities based on patterns

Can I edit or delete activities?

Yes! Activities are fully manageable:

To Edit:

  1. Tap "Edit Activities" on the main screen
  2. Tap on the activity you want to modify
  3. Update the name, category, or color
  4. Tap "Save"

To Delete:

  1. Tap "Edit Activities"
  2. Tap on the activity you want to remove
  3. Tap "Delete"
  4. A confirmation dialog will appear
  5. Review the warning about reassigning logged time
  6. Tap "Confirm" to proceed or "Cancel" to abort

Important Notes:

  • If you have logged time with an activity, you must reassign those timeslices to a different activity before deletion
  • Deleting an activity doesn't delete historical data—it just requires reassignment
  • Consider temporarily disabling instead of deleting if you might use it again

Can I temporarily disable an activity?

Yes! Temporarily disabling is perfect for seasonal or occasional activities:

To Disable:

  1. Go to "Edit Activities"
  2. Tap on the activity
  3. Toggle "Temporarily disable activity" to ON
  4. Tap "Save"

Effects of Disabling:

  • Activity won't appear in the selection list when logging time
  • Historical data remains intact
  • Can be re-enabled anytime
  • Activity still visible in past timeslices

To Re-enable:

  1. Go to "Edit Activities"
  2. Tap on the disabled activity
  3. Toggle "Temporarily disable activity" to OFF
  4. Tap "Save"

Use Cases:

  • Seasonal activities (e.g., "Skiing" in summer, "Swimming" in winter)
  • Project-based activities that come and go
  • Reducing clutter without losing history
  • Activities you're taking a break from

How many activities can I create?

There's no limit! Create as many activities as you need to accurately represent your day. However, we recommend starting with 8-12 core activities and adding more as needed.

What are activity categories?

  • Health: Exercise, meditation, self-care
  • Personal: Chores, cooking, errands
  • Social: Time with friends and family
  • Creative: Hobbies, art, music
  • Learning: Reading, courses, skill development
  • Other: Anything that doesn't fit elsewhere

Can I change activity colors?

Yes! Activity colors are customizable:

  1. Go to "Edit Activities"
  2. Tap on the activity you want to modify
  3. Tap the color picker
  4. Choose a new color
  5. Tap "Save"
